This is a sketch in detail from a painting by James Dietz, who does a lot of military paintings and prints. This is from the crash site of Durant's UH-60 Black Hawk, and where the two Delta snipers (Gordon and Shughart) were inserted and gave their lives to protect Durant. They were awarded the Medal of Honor.
I saw it once on one of the military forms that I belong to. So I made a sketch of what I could make out of it, it was a very small thumb but I could pretty much figure out some of the details because I was in the military for twenty years. He is a very good artist I love his prints. This sketch is very small too just when I scanned it in it looks bigger. I believe that this painting is the real deal of the battle and it is a very tragic and in the same time a very moving heroic gesture that proves that there is good in some men when they are willing to do their jobs but also protect another brother in arms. I like your drawing too. You are very talented.
Yeah. I think only people who've been in the military can understand the 'essence' of this cameraderie. The civilian world is very cutthroat in comparison.
Thanks for the complement. I did my piece after seeing the movie and wanting to know and see more of that part. After reading the book, I would do it slightly different.
Retired Army. SFC, Infantry, Airborne and so on. Great books and a very good movie. I have a lot of buddies that were there for OCT 3 and 4 in 93. Thanks for the comments and keep drawing. I do not as much as I should but I love to draw military drawings. I miss the shoot, move and communicate. If you want know more about me check out my Face book page.
